Jonas Chair -- he / him or they / them Hi everyone! My name is Jonas, and I study two international security-related Bachelors in The Hague, at both LU and THUAS. I joined LU Pride because I believe all individuals have the right to exist and thrive in safe, inclusive social spaces. Diversity is something to be respected and celebrated, not tolerated or even ignored. As the LU Pride chairperson, I am proud to be part of a community that honours these values. In my spare time, I also fight LGBTQI+ injustice as Queerosaurus – LU Pride’s prehistoric mascot, because despite any negative perceptions rooted in heteropatriarchy, queer is beautiful and as old as time. Tiaan Vice-chair / blogger -- he / him Hi! My name is Tiaan Westenberg. I am the Vice-Chair of Leiden University Pride for the 2nd year running. I am an alumni of Leiden University, having graduated with my MSc in Political Sciences. I wrote my thesis on LGBTQ+ transnational identity and citizenship and this is something I wish to further explore in a PhD. I am currently working on Internationalisation at The Hague University of Applied Sciences, trying to bring LGBTQ+ topics to the forefront for a more inclusive educational environment. In my spare time I devour as many books as I can, play (and lose) as many board games as I can and consume as much about Eurovision as I possibly can. I help run the LUP Queer Book Club and sometimes write blogs and recommendations for LUP. Renzo Treasurer -- he / him Hi all, my name is Renzo, and I am the Treasurer of LU Pride. I just graduated Life Science & Technology, a shared study programme between LU and TU Delft. Throughout my study time, I was active in various student association committees. More recently, I have come to really know the queer community for the first time, and realise its value and potential. Now that my studies are behind me, I want to use my experience and organisational skills to help in creating more awareness and inclusive spaces where I possibly can. LU Pride has provided me with a great opportunity to do that. Not only can I apply my skills to help a budding organization grow, the goals and ideals of the foundation really align with mine. Everybody deserves a safe space to be themselves and via LU Pride we can provide that space. By increasing awareness through activities and education, we can extend that safe place to include the entirety of Leiden, and surrounding areas! Truly an admirable goal, which I am proud to be part of. Charlotte Events -- she / her I found out about LU Pride over Facebook. As someone new to the Netherlands, I wanted to see if there was a community here that I could join and meet other people with. I visted some of LU Pride events and then decided that I would like to join. I wanted to make new friends, find people from my community and, most importantly, hoped to help other people find this community and to feel accepted and safe. Currently, I study International Relations and Organization and I am in my second year. Next to studying, I work for a German biologist/politician on a framework surrounding the biological weapons convention. If I have some free time, I like to read fictional stories, write my own and also I love taking pictures and enjoy photography a lot. Esmée Events -- she / her Hi everyone! My name is Esmée van der Lem and I am currently in the middle of my BA International Studies at Leiden University, campus The Hague. Since high school, I have been interested in LGBT+ related topics and I am still considering a master in Gender and Sexuality, although for now I will try to queer up my own courses as much as I can and plan fun and interesting events for LUP. I believe every gender and sexual identity should be treated equally, both inside and out of the community and I hope to make everyone feel welcomed when they come to our events. I hope to see you soon! Aiden Events -- they / them or he / him Hey all! My name is Aiden. I’m n-b trans masc and go by either they/them or he/him pronouns. I’m currently in my second year of BA International Studies at Leiden University, campus the Hague. One of the reasons I’ve decided to join LUP, is that in the future I’d love to work with LGBTQ+ related topics. I also find it very important that everybody has a community to feel at ease in, and thus I try to provide exactly that through my position as event manager. I hope everyone is as excited about the coming up events as I am, and I can’t wait to meet all of you there! 🏳🌈 Anna Communications & Social Media -- she / her or they / them Hello everyone! My name is Anna, team member at LU Pride. I study Innovative Development (IT) at The Hague University of Applied Sciences, which I started doing last year after a few years of working in film and television. I joined LU Pride because I love the enthusiasm and love in our little community. I want to invest my creative energy to let the world know there’s a safe spaces in the Netherlands for people who don’t fully adhere to the norms — whether that means you identify as LGBTQ+, queer, or whatever other term feels comfortable. Through LU Pride I’ve found a lot of friendship and support, and I will definitely continue to do so! If you feel like meeting some lovely people, definitely come around to our events or join our hangouts WhatsApp group! Joey Communications & Social Media -- they / them or he / him Hello friends of LU Pride! My name is Joey and this will be my second year helping out as part of the LU Pride team. I found out about this beautiful organisation when I came to study here in Leiden, and joined because of the opportunity to meet great people within the community. Although I am in my final bachelor’s year of studying Psychology, my interests are so broad that I spend most of my time doing all sorts of stuff – including making music, art, writing and reading. Not only do I take classes at Leiden University, I have also walked the halls of the Royal Art Academy in The Hague and am currently following classes at the Erasmus University. Coming from Groningen originally and being raised in an international environment, I love meeting people from all sorts of places and cities. What I like most about LU Pride is having a safe space where we can talk freely about anything – whether it’s LGBTQ+ related or not! So if you ever feel like having a chat, don’t hesitate to contact any of us, join our WhatsApp-group or drop by sometime at one of our many events. I hope to see you all soon! Love is love is love. Oriol Communications & Social Media -- he / him My name is Oriol and I come from Spain. I am currently studying International Relations in the Humanities faculty, specialising in Culture and Politics. I have a passion for languages, current affairs and travelling, but I also have an interest in equality and human rights. For me, LU Pride is a great opportunity to branch out, be a part of the queer community and embracing diversity both within the university and without. I hope to see you at our next event! Kirsten Blogger -- she / her Hi all! My name is Kirsten de Mare and I am a student at Leiden University. For the LGBT+ community I look for ways to bring people together and to incorporate our community into modern society, without the stamp of ‘being different,’ the need for labeling or different treatment whatsoever.
